“So that’s where it goes.”
I gave up on two budgeting apps in a month. With Depensia I just log what I pay, and for the first time I can tell you what October cost me.
ClaireNurse, paid on the 28th
I assumed rent was the problem. The breakdown showed me restaurants were. One look, and I knew.
MalikCommutes by train every day
No bank login, no budget to set up. I add the receipt at the till and check the month on my laptop at night.

Payday, then the 24th, then the question: where did it all go?
The money arrives once a month and leaves in dozens of small payments: a coffee, a train ticket, a late-night delivery. By the end of the month the account is lower than you expected and nothing tells you why.
Budgeting apps promised to fix it, then asked you to set limits, build categories and connect your bank before they showed you a single thing. Most people quit at that point. It was never a willpower problem: the app asked for work before it gave an answer.
Three steps, and only the first one takes any effort.
Log it as you pay
Amount, category, done. The date is already today and the note is optional, so it takes seconds, one-handed, at the till.
See it counted
It lands straight in the month's total and its category on your dashboard. No sums to do, nothing to set up.
Look whenever you like
This evening on your laptop or at the end of the month on your phone: the month's answer is waiting, the same on both.
One number first. Then exactly why.
Every screen opens on the month you're looking at, with the figures already worked out.

Depensia works in your browser and on your iPhone with the same account. An expense you add on one shows up on the other the next time you open it, with the same totals to the cent.

Before you ask
Is Depensia really free?
Yes. There's no card to enter, no trial that runs out and no paid tier.
Do I need to connect my bank?
No. You add each expense yourself, in a few seconds. Depensia never connects to your bank.
Which devices does it work on?
Any web browser, on a computer or a phone, and the iPhone. One account works on both and shows the same data.
Can I change the categories?
No. Every expense goes into one of seven fixed categories: Groceries, Restaurants, Transport, Housing, Health, Leisure and Other. There's nothing to set up.
Which currencies does it support?
Euros only. Every amount is in EUR, to the cent.
Will it send me emails or notifications?
No. No newsletters, no reminders, no push notifications. You open Depensia when you want to.
